The heart of this program will be the field experience, canoeing in the Temagami Wilderness. During the first week, the students will be at Strata to develop their meal plan, packing list, first aid skills and to achieve their ORCKA Level 1 Basic Canoeing Certification. Week two and three involve a guided canoe expedition through the North and South Lady Evelyn river ecosystems in the heart of the Temagami Wilderness. The trip will involve approximately 100km of paddling, and 10km of portaging. We will travel through rugged backcountry terrain visiting waterfalls, ancient pictographs and petroglyphs, spiritual sites of significance for the local Anishnabai First Nations, and the largest old-growth white and red pine forests in the world.
